Manpreet Sharma suffered from depression after his sister Meena was killed in Emmerdale.
Evil Meena had been on drugs and planned to kill both Manpreet and Vinny Dingle before she was chased out of the village (temporarily) by Liam Cavanagh and her crimes came to light.
Friday’s episode (January 28) featured Manpreet trying to move on with his life by moving in with Charles after he was released from the hospital.
She received a warm welcome returning from Vinny and Harriet Finch, but her former daughter-in-law Priya Sharma was much less receptive.
The two had a combative relationship during Manpreet’s marriage to Priya’s father, Rishi, and recently had a falling out over how Priya coped with the Halloween fire.
When Priya learned that Manpreet had returned, she angrily accused her of sharing responsibility for killing Meena over the past few months.
“She’s your sister, so don’t pretend you didn’t know what she really looked like,” Priya charged. “People have died and I’m scarred for life…I’ve been through hell. It’s your fault she came here in the first place!
“You brought a psychopath into our lives.”
When Manpreet desperately tried to explain that she never knew her sister was “a killer”, Priya demanded that she “stop lying” and accused her of ruining her life.
“I never want you around me again,” Priya asked.
Manpreet broke down in tears once Priya closed the door in his face. Later, Manpreet explained that she felt guilty, even though Rishi tried to assure her that Priya didn’t mean what she said.
“She’s right,” Meena told Charles. “I should have seen what Meena is capable of, but I didn’t.”
Will Charles help Manpreet realize she’s not to blame?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7 p.m. on ITV, with an additional episode at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
