Magazine Layout Designer – National Review

National exam is looking for a seasoned magazine layout designer for its bi-weekly print magazine. The right candidate will produce the magazine for publication every two weeks.

Working closely with the Art Director and Editor-in-Chief, the Layout Artist will be able to define magazine content into modeled InDesign files in a qualitative and timely manner, oversee these files through various stages of proofreading, and guide a error-free delivery to the printer.


  • Advanced working knowledge of InDesign;
  • Proven magazine layout ability;
  • Solid working knowledge of Photoshop (or equivalent);
  • Strong editorial skills, including the ability to write captions within NR style guidelines; select the readings that best support a story; and understand proofreader marks and accurately apply changes to galleys and ropes.

The right candidate will be able to lay out a 60-page magazine and meet multiple signing deadlines with a tight production schedule; be able to work seamlessly with the editor, editors, publicity reps and art department through various layout adjustments during production; will be able to create special sections according to the wishes of the editor and the editor; and will have an advanced understanding of the magazine production process, building layouts, adjusting content, selecting and sizing illustrations, placing advertising and traffic galleys and ropes to through the editorial, from the draft to the final.
