Nothing Phone front design (1), LED layout customizations revealed in hands-on video

Nothing The Phone (1) hands-on video was posted by popular YouTuber, Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD). The teasers released by the company so far have mainly focused on the rear design of the device. However, MKBHD’s video previews its front design for the first time.

Nothing Telephone (1)the company’s first smartphone, is set to debut on July 12, 2022. It will be its second product after the TWS Nothing Ear headphones (1), which were unveiled in July 2021. Like the Ear (1), the Call (1) a+ sports. Here’s everything revealed through his first hands-on video.

The Nothing Phone (1) has four LED strips placed on the back. There is an LED strip surrounding the camera, a slanted light strip is available in the upper right corner, a C-shaped LED strip surrounding the wireless charging coil can be in the center, and an LED strip that looks like an exclamation point at the bottom. In all, it has over 900 LEDs built into the rear panel, which is dubbed “Glyph Interface” by Nothing. These customizable LEDs and the semi-transparent back give the Nothing Phone (1) a unique look.

The hands-on video reveals that all four LED strips can shine simultaneously to to fill light while taking photos or recording videos. Speaking of video recording, it has a dedicated red LED that flashes when the device is filming.

All LED strips can pulse for notifications. The C-shaped LED strip lights up while the device is being wirelessly charged or during reverse wireless charging. The LED strip placed at the bottom serves as a visual indicator to see the progress of the charge without turning on the screen. The LEDs turn off in seconds. However, these can be reactivated by shaking the Call (1).

There is a dedicated Glyph interface settings page on the Nothing Phone (1), which gives users customization options for the LED strips. It also allows users to choose from a set of 10 preloaded ringtones that offer synchronized LED patterns. Users can define custom LED patterns for specific contacts. The company will soon add support for LED notifications for different apps.

As for the front design, it can be seen sporting an AMOLED panel with a punch-hole design. As the company had previously confirmed, the Telephone (1) sports a very thin lower bezel. It sports a flat-edge design with volume keys on the left and a power button on the right.

Nothing Phone Specs (1) (rumored)

MKBHD’s Nothing Phone (1) hands-on video does not contain any information about its specifications. The video suggests that it sports an AMOLED panel with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Rumors are rife that it has a 6.55-inch panel supporting FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It may feature Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset and up to 8GB of RAM.

The Call (1) is supposed to support 45W wired charging apart from wireless charging. It will be pre-installed with Android 12 operating system with Nothing OS UI on top. The handset is confirmed to receive 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates. In Europe, the device should cost around €550 (~Rs 45,200). There is no word on its price for the Indian market. However, it is confirmed that it will go on sale via Flipkart after its official announcement.
