But if Miguel was unable to do so or not, his daughter Kate would take care of it.
Show boss Laura Kenar explained Rebecca’s decision to choose Kate over Randall, and how the decision was made after Randall and Kevin argued over her care.
“We talked about it a lot,” she told Weekly entertainment.
“[During] pretty much the first decision, Randall and Kevin argue and don’t talk for months after that – it kind of ruins their relationship for a while.
“I think that’s definitely a big part of it, just thinking about how to keep the peace.

“She knows that all of her children come from the best possible intentions for her, but she also knows the dynamics that [are] at stake, especially between Randall and Kevin.
“She knows that choosing Kate will relieve a lot of stress, and she’s come so far with Kate.”
She added: “Their relationship has evolved so much. A few episodes before, we see Rebecca slapping Kate as a teenager. But they’ve had so many great times and come together so well over the past two years.
“So it’s a combination, but I think Rebecca is very wise in her choice.”
Kenar added that Rebecca’s decision will play out in future episodes of the final season, particularly if she doesn’t choose Randall, who she also seems closest to.
“Outside of this episode, we get into these big trilogy episodes for Kate, Kevin and Randall.
“In the Randall trilogy episode, it’s a really great Rebecca-Randall story. I think you’ll get some answers in that area.”
